Angie from Beneath the Magnolias made this beautiful and simple no-sew version of Pottery Barn’s pumpkin applique pillow for fall.
Angie layered burlap for the applique and finished the edges with jute twine to keep it from unraveling.
She even shares her pumpkin pattern so you can whip up your very own pretty pumpkin pillow in no time!
Angie was visiting Pottery Barn recently looking at all of their pretty fall decor. One of her favorite things she found was a pillow with a pumpkin applique on it.
Of course, every time she’s see something and thinks she can make, most of the time she does NOT end up making it. This time she was determined to make pumpkin applique.
Here’s how she made her version:
First step is to decide on what kind of pillow cover you want to attach your applique to.
The fabric…
Angie made a very quick and easy envelope pillow cover out of Osnaburg fabric.
It’s not a very thick fabric but she already had it so just decided to use it. Drop cloth fabric would work perfectly for this project as well.
The easiest route of course, would be to use a pre-made pillow cover. There are so many pretty fall pillows out there using lots of attractive colors schemes.
The pumpkin pattern…
Next, trace or draw any pumpkin pattern you like. Then, place your piece of paper over pumpkin and trace three overlay pieces.
Now, place the pumpkin pattern piece on dark-colored burlap and cut one. Cut the other 3 pattern pieces out of the lighter-colored burlap.
Gluing jute around the applique pieces gives it a finished look and helps it to not unravel.
You’re almost there…
Finishing up…
Arrange the jute to make the vines and run glue underneath and pin down the string while it dries. Glue down your stem as well.
Angie cut the edge off of a kitchen towel for the stem.
Angie’s inspiration came from the Pumpkin Applique Pillow Cover from Pottery Barn.
What’s great is how much the finished product looks like it’s been embroidered. But…you won’t have to have this skill and/or spend the time doing the real thing.
Best of all, you save lots of mula with another fun, little knock off.
